La Liga is fined 250K euros by the Spanish DPA for GDPR violation
Eldario.es has reported that the Spanish regulator has imposed a fine of 250k euros on La Liga football league.
This story revolves around the use of a mobile application which was activated remotely via a user’s microphone. The app would activate itself without the user’s consent and determine whether the premises frequented by the user, such as bars, transmitted pirated football matches. The app can remotely determine if a ‘pirated’ signal was being emitted from the location of the premises.
The Spanish regulator concluded that La Liga did not abide by the GDPR transparency rules and furthermore, the users were not allowed to withdraw their consent. La Liga is said to be appealing the decision.
